Autism Awareness and Inclusive Practices

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that is characterised by difficulty with social interaction and communication. An increase in autism awareness helps those living with ASD and society in many ways. This course explores the social perceptions of autism, the challenges people with autism face and the inclusive practices you can use to support them. We lay out the types of autism, its causes, symptoms, diagnosis and more.

Do you often find yourself facing misunderstandings in public? Does your child sometimes feel uncomfortable in social settings? If so, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) could be a contributing factor. ASD influences an individual's behaviour and may impact social relationships and communication. It is important that all of us feel accepted and understood as humans. With this in mind, raising autism awareness can foster a greater understanding and acceptance of individuals living with this neurobiological mental disorder. This course is designed to equip you with knowledge about ASD and explains how to create a more inclusive environment for those living with autism.
We begin by introducing you to ASD and exploring individual unique challenges facing those living with it. The course lays out the different types of autism, including Asperger's Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and more. We study the causes and symptoms of ASD and outline the treatments that can improve the social skills of autistic people. We explain how to communicate with people living with autism and discuss the cognitive style and functions of ASD.
Greater public understanding of autism can benefit those affected by the disorder and their families. In light of this, we analyse the behavioural patterns and strategies that can enable you to understand autism patients better and manage their lifestyles. Finally, we explore the UK government’s policies on autism. This mental health course has no prerequisites and suits anyone who wishes to learn about ASD and wants to contribute to a more inclusive society for individuals living with autism.
